YouTube CPM & RPM Rates 2026

A complete reference of YouTube advertising rates by niche, audience country, and video format. Updated with real 2026 benchmark data from creator communities and industry reports.

What is CPM vs RPM?

CPM (Cost Per Mille) is what advertisers pay YouTube per 1,000 ad impressions. This is the gross rate before YouTube takes its cut.

RPM (Revenue Per Mille) is what you as a creator actually receive per 1,000 video views, after YouTube's approximately 45% revenue share and after accounting for the fact that not every view generates an ad impression. RPM is always lower than CPM, and it is the number that appears in your YouTube Studio analytics.

As a creator, always think in RPM, not CPM. An advertiser paying a $20 CPM does not mean you earn $20 per 1,000 views. Your RPM will typically be $6 to $10 from that same traffic.

YouTube RPM by niche (US audience, 2026)

These figures assume a primarily US-based audience viewing long-form videos with mid-roll ads enabled. Non-US audiences and Shorts earn significantly less.

YouTube CPM by audience country (2026)

Your audience geography is one of the biggest factors in your RPM. Here is how country tiers affect your earnings relative to a US baseline.

Country / RegionMultiplier vs USTypical CPM range
United States1.0x (baseline)$8 - $30+
United Kingdom0.85x$7 - $25
Canada0.80x$6 - $24
Australia0.80x$6 - $24
Western Europe (avg)0.65x$5 - $20
Brazil0.20x$1.50 - $6
India0.15x$1 - $4
Philippines0.12x$0.80 - $3.50
Mixed / Global audience0.40x (avg)$3 - $12

YouTube RPM by video format (2026)

Not all video formats earn equally. The format you choose has a dramatic impact on your effective RPM.

FormatRPM multiplierWhy
Long-form (8+ min, mid-roll ads enabled)1.0x (best)Multiple ad slots per view (pre-roll + mid-roll + post-roll)
Standard (under 8 min, pre-roll only)0.6xOnly pre-roll and post-roll ads available
YouTube Shorts0.03x (lowest)Pool-based monetization, not per-impression

Seasonal RPM patterns

YouTube RPM is not constant throughout the year. Advertiser spending follows a predictable seasonal cycle that affects all creators:

PeriodRPM trendReason
JanuaryLowest of yearPost-holiday budget reset, low advertiser demand
February - MarchStabilizesAnnual campaigns begin, budgets allocated
April - June (Q2)ModerateSteady growth as campaigns ramp up
July - September (Q3)StableConsistent mid-year spending
October - December (Q4)Peak of year (+30 to 60%)Holiday shopping drives massive advertiser competition

A channel earning $5 RPM in February might earn $7 to $8 RPM in November from identical content and audience. Plan your income expectations around this cycle rather than treating any one month as your baseline.
